Official Samsung S9 release date plus leaked photos, specs and cases
We haven't seen them yet but there's no doubt the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will be two of the most powerful and polished flagship phones of 2018. As we count down to the day when the phones are unveiled at Mobile World Congress, here are all the key rumours and leaks we've heard so far, as well as some official S9 news from Samsung.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 RELEASE DATE
It's official – the Samsung Galaxy S9 launch event will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2018. That means we're just days away from taking our first proper look at the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.
The date was confirmed by Samsung Mobile's official Twitter Account:SamsungMobile
So when might the Samsung S9 go on sale? If we follow the schedule of last year's Galaxy S8 release, we can expect pre-orders for the S9 to begin the day after the announcement, so on Monday February 26, with an official release and availability of mid-March.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 PRICE
As for prices, last year the Galaxy S8 originally retailed for £639 in the UK and $725 in the US SIM-free, with the S8+ coming in at £780 in the UK and $825 in the US SIM-free.
We'd expect the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ prices to be around that level, too, though maybe just a touch higher – Apple has got away with pushing up prices for
the iPhone X and Samsung may follow suit.
A higher price is something that has recently been backed up, with an industry insider reporting that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be priced at £789 on launch, which is a whole £150 or 23 percent higher than its predecessor.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 DESIGN AND BUILD

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus
Brace yourselves for another pair of gorgeous-looking phones when the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus break cover. We've seen shots of the phone (including the one above) leak out from very reputable sources, with the bezels disappearing even further at the edges of the screen.

Renowned tipster Evan Blass posted what look like genuine renders on Twitter, following that reveal up with another showing off the upcoming flagship in Lilac Purple, a brand new colour for the phone series.
We're hearing that Midnight Black, Arctic Silver, Orchid Grey, Lilac Purple, Coral Blue, Rose Pink and Maple Gold are going to be the colour options this year, though availability may vary depending on where in the world you live.
According to reports the screen-to-body ratio is going to be as high as 90 per cent on both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, while the continuation of the same aspect ratio is to ensure uniformity across Samsung's new smartphone range. Based on case leaks we've seen, the dimensions will be pretty similar to last year's models.

We don't have any official word yet on screen sizes, but something in the region of 5.77 inches and 6.22 inches for the two phones has been mooted.
Don't believe all the rumours you read though: a fully operational device purporting to be a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus leaked on YouTube has been quickly debunked as a fake.
Meanwhile, one website got its hands on photos of all the official case options coming with the S9 and S9 Plus, including a couple of new ones. While you're waiting for the new phones to officially break cover, have a click through the colours and the materials that are going to be available.
We've only got a few more days before we can see the real devices for ourselves: apparently some lucky people got a private preview at CES 2018.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 CAMERA

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
Samsung Galaxy phones always excel in terms of their cameras and it seems likely that we'll get a significant bump in this area – remember the Note 8 got an upgrade to a dual-sensor 12MP model, so there's every reason to suspect the Galaxy S9 will get the same improvements.

Another report suggests super-slow-mo video is going to be included for budding moviemakers, up to 1,000 frames-per-second if you need it for that real sense of detail. We've also heard rumours about HDR video capture and variable aperture over the last few months, making it easier to capture shots in low light, so it sounds like there's lots to look forward to.
Samsung itself put "The Camera. Reimagined." as the tagline on its Galaxy S9 event, so that suggests the camera will indeed be a key focus this year. Expect improved performance in low lighting conditions, as well as better overall quality no matter what the lighting.
Most sources point to a 12MP sensor (or two on the Plus model) for the rear camera, matching the Galaxy Note 8, with an 8MP snapper on the front for all your selfie needs. Whether or not we'll also see some smart, advanced 3D face recognition technology remains to be seen.
More details about the Galaxy S9 camera leaked on 8 February. This new leak suggests that not only will the camera be able to shoot at 1,000 FPS, but it will be able to shoot in slo-mo in two different modes.
Oh and what have we here? Leaked internals from the Samsung Galaxy S9, that's what, showing a single camera sensor and a rejigged fingerprint sensor.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 SPECS

Samsung Galaxy S8
Samsung has revealed its latest custom smartphone processor, the Exynos 9 Series 9810, which almost certainly will feature in its upcoming flagship Galaxy S9 range of phones, with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 replacing it in certain parts of the world.
That Snapdragon 845 should be blisteringly fast – 25 percent faster than the processor which is in last year’s Galaxy S8, according to benchmarksthat seem to be impressing everyone in the industry. Qualcomm says that not only is the new processor faster, but it will extend battery life, too.
In terms of Exynos 9810 specs, it has four performance cores than can reach speeds of up to 2.9GHz, and four efficiency cores for extending battery life when the device is in a low-power mode or application.
